The TABC sports organization looks to have a promising year. Other than varsity hockey no other fall sport got passed the quarter finals last year. But due to the team's’ growth during the offseason, and a promising freshman grade, this year will be different. Varsity basketball is looking to start the season off strong by heading to California for the Annual Steve Glouberman Basketball tournament this November. Varsity hockey is looking to pick up where it left off, following a championship win. Both JV teams have great talent coming from the freshman class; The JV hockey team has 11 freshman, and the JV basketball team has 7.
In an interview with coach Bobby Kaplan, head of the athletic department at TABC, Coach was asked some key questions about the organization:
Reporter- “How do you feel about the new talent TABC has acquired?”
Coach Bobby- “Talent in teaching?”
Reporter- “No, athletic talent.”
Coach Bobby- “Oh. It looks very promising, but we will see. ‘Practice is practice, but games are a different story.’ I once had a player, best shooter i've ever coached. He hit every single shot in practice, but when it came to the games he couldn't buy a bucket. He spent majority of the season on the bench. During the semifinals, we were down by 2 points, in triple overtime. 5 seconds remained on the clock. I looked to the end of the bench, and called in my best shooter. I looked him in the eye and said ‘you will sink this shot.’ And what do you know.... We drew up a play for him and he sunk the game winning shot. This just shows that you can't really tell much from practice. The only way to really know is by the games.”
Reporter- “Wow, what a story. Thank you so much for your time, coach.”
We also conducted an interview with the head of TABC’s basketball organization, coach Oz Cross.
Reporter- “What do you think about this year’s varsity team?
Coach Oz- “I'm very excited. Almost all the kids are returning jv and varsity players. So learning our system is going to be very easy. All the kids know what I'm asking for. I really know each players’ strengths and weaknesses.”
Reporter- “How do you feel about the new talent of the incoming freshmen?”
Coach Oz- “The freshman class is very talented. They are also a few freshman that didn't make this year’s team that are also very talented. Our sophomore class got a lot of experience last year, so our freshman can be freshman.”
Reporter- “Thank you so much coach!”
Ultimately, all of TABC’s fall sports teams look to have promising seasons. After talking with our athletic director and head of the basketball program they seem to agree. Between our improved talent and a strong freshman class, TABC is looking to make a mark in the history books this year. In the end, Torah Academy Of Bergen County is looking to emerge atop of the yeshiva league sports world.
