Sample Poll: Presidential Election

After conducting a poll at TABC to see whom students would vote for in the upcoming presidential election, we received some expected results. Based on the more conservative influence in our Orthodox culture, Donald Trump was the most popular candidate. Out of the 76 people we polled, 57.9% (43 people) voted for Trump, while 27.6% (21 people) voted for Clinton. But Gary Johnson got a surprising 11.8% of the vote (9 people), while Jill Stein only received 2.6% of the vote (2 people).

However, that was only half of the poll. In the second question, we asked students why they would vote for their chosen candidate (either because they liked them, disliked the others, or both). But what's most amazing is that a staggering 66.8% of the people who were polled, said that they voted their way only because they really disliked the other candidates. And 28.6% of the remaining 31.2% voted both, saying that although they liked their candidate, they strongly disliked the other ones. This means that a crazy 98.4% of people disliked the majority of the candidates. About two-thirds of Trump and Hillary supporters at our school only support their candidate because they dislike the other options.
