Teaneck Meat: Who Comes Out on Top?

Anyone who lives in Teaneck (or just visits here) knows this town is home to many kosher restaurants that keep everyone in the neighborhood satisfied. Whether you like an expensive or casual meal, the array of good kosher meat restaurants on Queen Anne Road is astounding and is something not many towns have.

There are a number of good kosher eateries in the area. But which one is the best? At first I thought there might be a definitive answer to this question, but truthfully each kosher meat restaurant on Queen Anne Road is special in its own way.

Every single day, many TABC students take a short stroll to Queen Anne Road where they take their lunch break. Many students go to a different place each day because they want to eat a specific item that store makes or simply because their friends are heading there with them.

The most commonly visited Kosher meat eateries on Queen Anne include The Humble Toast, Chickies, Yalla, The Doghouse, and Schnitzel Plus. The stores are more casual than fancy, but still offer some of the best food in town.

While these are the cheaper options on Queen Anne, the back of Queen Anne has some expensive sit-down restaurants such as Nobo, which sells unbelievable steaks.

Personally, I think the best meat restaurant is The Humble Toast. Their burgers are outstanding, specifically their house burger. With the lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, onions and their unbelievable humble sauce, their burger just beats everyone else.

There is also an option to add an egg on it for a dollar, which is definitely worth it as it gives a nice juicy taste to the burger. In addition to that, their service is amazing, and their quality is unmatched. For these reasons, I’d say The Humble Toast is the best meat place and definitely the place to go for a burger.

Chickies and Schnitzel Plus are also very good, as they provide a cheaper yet still enjoyable meal with the best chicken in town. Chickies is a better option than Schnitzel Plus, but by just a little. Their combazlo sauce is the best on Queen Anne Road and it’s perfect in their specialty Captain Munch sandwich.

By the way, the Captain Munch is the best schnitzel sandwich on Queen Anne because it contains amazing schnitzel inside along with french fries, fried onions, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and that amazing combazlo sauce.

To be fair, the schnitzel at Schnitzel Plus is also amazing. Their sandwiches are very good too, but there sauces are weak, as they don’t put much inside and that leaves you having to add more yourself. For these reasons, I think Chickies is slightly better overall, but if you are looking for plain schnitzel then Schnitzel Plus is the better place to go.

Nobo, although very expensive, has the best steaks and best meat options, including their spectacular 20 oz. steak. This steak is the best steak I have had anywhere in the world, but it must be cooked from medium to well. This steak costs $48, which may be too expensive for lunch, but Nobo is definitely an amazing dinner place to go to with the family.

The Doghouse is a very good eatery overall, but nothing they have particularly amazes me. The best part about going to The Doghouse is obviously all the TVs. The only time Doghouse is the place to go is if there is a big sports game on, because then you can get every angle of the game on all their 20 different TV screens.

The best item on the menu is definitely their Gator Tenders - schnitzel tenders topped with an unbelievable “Gator Sauce”(a Doghouse specialty). Not only are these Gator Tenders very good, they are also relatively cheap. The Doghouse may not be the place to get the best food, but it is a great place to watch a big game with friends while still eating quality food.

Last but not least, Yalla is a new Mediterranean restaurant which only sells one amazing item: shawarma. This makes Yalla very unique restaurant, because no other restaurant in town has great shawarma.

Their shawarma - served in a laffa with french fries, fried onions, fried eggplant, hummus and techina - is a specialty that can only be found there. Because Yalla is very new, many in the community don’t know about it. I really advise people to go and try their unbelievable shawarma laffa.

Aside from food, a restaurant's quality can also be judged by their service and cleanliness.. While The Humble Toast takes the crown for best burger and best overall food, places like Nobo Steakhouse have the upper hand when it comes to their environment.

Nobo is very fancy and the service is very consistent with few bumps in the road. Likewise, places like Schnitzel Plus are enjoyable to eat in as the restaurant itself is very nice and clean and they have quick service. As a result, Schnitzel plus is the place to go for a student who doesn’t have much time.

That being said, while some places are very clean and nice, others like Chickies and The Doghouse are very dark and gloomy or unsanitary and not well put together. In some areas, like the aforementioned restaurants, the service and overall environment is simply not up to par with the others.

While Yalla does has great service, the place itself isn’t so appealing and part of what makes a place good is its decor and its environment.

All in all, each place has its respective strengths and weaknesses, but ultimately Humble Toast’s combination of solid service, decent environment and great food - specifically, their house burger- wins it the crown of best eatery on Queen Anne Road.
