One of TABC’s main selling points is the great restaurants nearby. From Schnitzel Plus to Rock and Roll Sushi, Chickie’s to Sammy’s, and Chopstix to EJ’s, your lunch options are endless, regardless of whether you prefer meat or dairy.
In this article, I will interview different students from different grades, surveying them on their favorite restaurants and providing advice about which lunch option is the best.
Personally, out of all the restaurants available to us, I prefer Chopstix, mostly because of their great student deal. For about $9, you can get one of their many delicious main dishes (my favorite is the wholesome sesame chicken), a soup of your choosing and a side of white, brown or fried rice. As a large meal for a relatively low price, it’s a pretty unbeatable deal.
As I mentioned above, I interviewed students and asked them to tell me about their favorite student deal, the restaurant they go to most often, and their overall favorite lunch option.
When asked about what he considered to be the best Queen Anne restaurant, Junior Ezra Baron responded, “Schnitzel Plus has the best student deal.” He likes the fact that, for less than $10, you can get 6 juicy chicken tenders of your choice, along with fries and a drink. He says he goes there “almost every day” because of its close proximity to TABC and its quick service.
Freshman David Attar named Sammy’s as his go-to restaurant: “It’s only $5 for two slices of pizza or $2 for a bagel, both of which are great deals.” However, Attar named Schnitzel Plus as his most frequently-visited restaurant. Although he thinks that Sammy’s has a better student deal, he prefers “meat over dairy.” Schnitzel Plus is his favorite place for that because of their ideal prices, friendly customer service and delicious food.
Note the difference: Baron and Attar both agree that Schnitzel Plus is the overall best restaurant, but Attar believes that Sammy’s has the best student deal. Still, the cumulative evidence from my interviews pointed to Schnitzel Plus as the clear frontrunner in the contest for the best restaurant near TABC.
Personally, I think Baron and Attar make a good point about Schnitzel Plus’s excellent service, but I find that the lines there are often way too long; this worsens my lunch experience.
Junior Jakob Berger agrees with me that “Chopstix has the best student deal for sure,” but he personally doesn’t like Chinese food. For that reason, he goes to Rock and Roll Sushi the most often. It’s his favorite restaurant because “it has fair prices” and sushi is his favorite food.
Berger also admires Rock and Roll Sushi’s service: “The cashier there is very nice and my food is always ready quickly and on time. That is why Rock and Roll Sushi is my favorite.”
For my own part, I enjoy the occasional zesty roll of sushi, but the small portions at Rock and Roll Sushi often fail to satisfy my appetite.
Sophmore Matti Cohen agreed with the consensus opinion that Schnitzel Plus offers the best student deal: “The food is really good and their prices are not expensive.” However, Cohen eats at Sammy’s most often because that’s where his friends like to eat.
Surprisingly, though, Cohen said that his favorite restaurant was Chickies: “The combination of their beautiful renovations and awesome Cap’n Munch sandwich make for an attractive lunch option.” But Cohen then confessed that the long walk discourages him from going there as often as he would like.
Junior Baruch Karpov voted for Chopstix as “the best student deal” because “you get a ton of great food for only $9.” However, Karpov identified Sammy’s as the restaurant he goes to most often: “I go to Sammy’s at least 3 times a week and every time I get the same toasted bagel with cream cheese. There’s just something about the bagels at Sammy’s that makes them better than any other kind.”
Karpov praised the low prices, excellent customer service and “overall environment” at Sammy’s which, he felt, makes “lunch there very enjoyable.”
All in all, if you attend TABC, you are very fortunate to have all of these fabulous lunch options so close by. Even the pickiest of eaters can find something that suits their taste buds. In my opinion, one option stands out the most: Chopstix. However, of the students I interviewed, the majority agreed that Schnitzel Plus offers the best student deal but also that Sammy’s has the best food.
